Dowel and crampons connectors are very easy to install; they neither require skilled workmanship nor special site conditions. Installing them is as simple as tightening two screws! Connectors can either be fixed directly to the beam or to floorboards. A sheet of waterproof material should be laid under the connectors before casting the concrete. When working with hardwood pre-drilling is necessary (6 mm diameter for "BASE" connectors with 8 mm screws) 8 mm diameter holes must always be prepared for "MAXI" connectors with 10 mm diameter screws. A suitably dimensioned steel mesh should also be placed. There are three installation methods:

Cut the holes in the boards with a milling cutter or a cup saw (Ø 65 mm for BASE connectors) (Ø 90 mm for MAXI connectors). Not recommended for hardwood boards or existing boards fixed with a large number of nails.

TECNARIA has a range of equipment which simplifies installation of the connectors; these are also available for hire.

 BOARD CORE BORING

The boards are cut with a circular saw in order to create a continuous corridor above the beam. Recommended for new floors. The same situation occurs if hollow floor tiles or flat tiles are interposed.

A waterproof transpiring sheet prevents the mortar from percolating, the timber from absorbing the cast water and dust from depositing on the underlying floor. It must be laid over the boards and under the connectors.

 CONTINUOUS CUT BOARDING

The connectors are placed directly into the boards. This application is raccomanded for the complete repairing of existing structures.

The interposition of stiff insulating material increases the cross-section of the timber-concrete composite structure without adding weight to the floor. It also increases the strength and stiffness of the structure and improves heat and sound insulation.
